Insight & Analysis / Estimating Eligibility for Colorado's Medicaid Expansion by County
The Colorado Health Care Affordability Act (HB09-1293, or the CHCAA) extends Medicaid eligibility to adults without dependent children (AwDCs) with incomes at or below 100 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL), or about $11,000 for a single individual in 2012. About 10,000 AwDCs at or below 10 percent of FPL will be the first people in this group to gain coverage on May 1, 2012.
As of April 30, 2012, the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing reported that around 2,800 AwDCs were determined eligible for the expansion. This number was lower than some analysts had expected based on other states’ experiences and CHI’s estimates of the number of AwDCs eligible for the expansion.
