Colorado's Mental Health Safety Net Primer
A mix of systems and providers, including community mental health centers (CMHCs), community health centers (CHCs), hospitals, schools, correctional facilities and other community-based organizations serve as Colorado’s de facto mental health care system. Many of these providers act as the mental health safety net for low-income and medically indigent Coloradans.
This primer shows that 77 percent of mental health care is provided in community mental health programs, followed by 16 percent at community health centers, 4 percent at state psychiatric hospitals and 3 percent in jails and correctional facilities.
