The Colorado Health Report Card provides a full decade of data that measure how improvements in Colorado’s health over time stacked up against the rest of the nation.

The Health Report Card graded Colorado on its most pressing health issues between 2006 and 2016. It did this by focusing on 38 key health indicators across five stages of life: Healthy Beginnings, Healthy Children, Healthy Adolescents, Healthy Adults and Healthy Aging.

This decade of data offers a glimpse into the issues Colorado successfully tackled.

The first Health Report Card noted that Colorado fell below the national average for health insurance coverage in every age group. By the 2016 Health Report Card, Colorado’s children and adults topped the national average. But momentum lagged in some areas. Many Coloradans, particularly those facing financial hardships, fell behind. And there were persistent disparities based on race, ethnicity and geography.

Between 2006 and 2016, the Health Report Card evolved beyond the health grade. More than a tool to share data, it was designed to ignite the conversations that could help to shape the story of Colorado’s health.

(Please Note: The nomenclature and timing of release changed between 2012 and 2013, so there is no 2013 Report Card.)
