Jay Nakashima

Jay Nakashima has been President and Executive Director of eHealth Exchange since 2018. He leads the company’s public-good efforts to improve patient care, public health, and health care administration by ensuring patients’ medical details are securely provided to trusted health care providers and public health agencies across the United States. Under his direction, the company has grown dramatically and data exchange increased by 100,000%. eHealth Exchange is the largest health information network in the U.S. Incubated by the United States government, it is now an independent nonprofit operating in all 50 states and processing more than 20 billion transactions annually.  

Jay began his career at IBM Japan in Tokyo in 1988. After leaving IBM for graduate school, he transitioned to a health information technology career where he occupied a variety of senior posts and acquired broad experience and knowledge in clinical workflows, artificial intelligence, privacy laws, cybersecurity, and financial management. He held leadership roles at electronic health record software companies, a national kidney medical provider, and a health insurance company. 

Jay earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Drake University. He holds a health care privacy expert certification, a health care cybersecurity expert certification, and eight technology profession certifications.
