Keep Up the Pace
Congratulations to Ethiopia’s Lemi Berhanu Hayle and Atsede Baysa for winning the elite men’s and women’s divisions of the Boston Marathon today. They each finished in less than 2 ½ hours. Talk about a fast clip.
Inspired by all of the Boston Marathon runners, the Colorado Health Institute is keeping a fast pace in the office this week as well. We have presentations, reports and blogs galore.
CEO Michele Lueck, Vice President Amy Downs and Senior Communications Expert Joe Hanel will present the results of CHI’s independent analysis of ColoradoCare Thursday morning to lawmakers and their staff members at the Capitol.
Our report is the first in a planned series delving into the proposed amendment to the constitution that would create a taxpayer-funded system of universal health coverage. Voters will decide on Amendment 69 in November.
What could be better than universal health care and breakfast burritos?
Michele and Policy Analyst Natalie Triedman will be teaming up bright and early Wednesday morning to give a presentation to board members of the new Colorado Springs Health Foundation. They’ll cover issues such as access to health care and the health care workforce in the foundation’s service regions of El Paso and Teller counties, sharing some of the latest data and discussing how it can inform the funding strategy.
Watch for Natalie’s blog — including an interview with Cari Davis, the foundation’s first executive director — on Wednesday.
Sara Schmitt, Director of Community Health Policy, will be in Colorado Springs a week from Wednesday. She is scheduled to make a presentation to the Oral Health Collaborative on findings from the 2015 Colorado Health Access Survey (CHAS) on oral health coverage, access and use of dental services. It is a sneak peek at data we’ll be publishing later this year in a CHAS brief.
Two days later, Sara will make another oral health presentation, this time to the SMILES Dental Project. Oral health providers and community partners who are implementing a virtual dental home model in their communities with funding from the Caring for Colorado Foundation will be attending the learning session.
Meanwhile, CHI will nearly match the 26.2 miles ran by the Boston Marathoners in a new mapping project. We will produce 26 maps, one for each letter of the alphabet, highlighting findings from the 2015 CHAS. Look for the first to be out soon!
And we hope you didn’t miss the most recent installment of Legislative Director and Policy Analyst Allie Morgan’s weekly blog. Taking a step in a different direction, Allie produced a weekly top eight after weeding through the lengthy list of bills, informing readers on what each proposes, what happened at the Capitol and why it matters to you.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the (weird) weather and slowly melting spring snow!
