CHI’s Legislative Preview Released
Jan 12, 2012 - The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) today released Legislative Opportunities and Trends 2012, an overview of health policy issues expected to be addressed by the Colorado General Assembly during this session.
With tough choices once again required to balance the budget, CHI anticipates that health policy work by lawmakers will focus on streamlining existing efforts rather than adding new programs.
A sampling of expected health policy legislation from CHI’s preview:
- Redesigning the state’s long-term services and supports programs within the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.
- Several payment reform proposals within the state’s Medicaid program.
- Increasing co-payments for some Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) services such as emergency and urgent care, inpatient and hospital services and routine office visits.
- Expanding oral health services to pregnant women covered by Medicaid.
- Continuing the confidentiality of any peer review reports under the Colorado Professional Review Act.
- Banning the sale of foods containing trans fatty acids in schools.
The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) is a trusted source of independent health information, data and analysis for the state’s health care leaders. CHI, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2012, is funded by The Colorado Health Foundation, The Colorado Trust, Caring for Colorado Foundation and Rose Community Foundation.
