I Do This Work Because

I do this work because I believe health care and social supports should be available to everyone. I believe we all have a role to play in contributing to the strength and well-being of our communities. And I feel privileged and grateful to work alongside dedicated leaders in Colorado who believe in working together to achieve these ends.

Favorite Quote

"What we must do is commit ourselves to some future that can include each other and to work toward that future with the particular strengths of our individual identities. And in order for us to do this, we must allow each other our differences at the same time as we recognize our sameness." —Audre Lorde

Kirsti Klaverkamp leads cross-sector initiatives to develop partnerships and implement programming that advance chronic disease prevention and management, social determinants of health, oral health, and climate and health priorities. As work plan manager for CHI’s Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity Alliance, she organized efforts to create CHI's first strategic plan for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Kirsti has facilitated diverse stakeholder groups to develop programmatic and policy recommendations that address complex challenges, including in behavioral health, care coordination, health and social data, and technology. She led efforts to expand and integrate community involvement in public health decision-making and programming by facilitating the first community board within the Metro Denver Partnership for Health and coordinating a series of capacity-building workshops for public health leaders to identify and prioritize opportunities for collaboration with community organizations.

Before joining CHI, Kirsti managed operations, quality improvement activities, and regional work groups under a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation demonstration project called the Accountable Health Communities Model. Kirsti also directed a gap analysis project to evaluate gaps and barriers to meeting health-related social needs in the community, which informed strategy and priority-setting for subsequent projects. Kirsti also has extensive experience in direct service, having previously coordinated a client advocacy program to improve access to health, human services, and community-based resources for older adults and people with low-incomes in the Denver metro area.

Kirsti earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota before receiving a Master of Social Science degree in community health from the University of Colorado Denver.

Outside of CHI, Kirsti enjoys hiking, traveling, gardening, and experiencing theatre.
