Medicaid Reform: Challenges and Opportunities for Colorado

The Accountable Care Collaborative (ACC) plays a key role in transforming the way that Medicaid is delivered and paid for in the state of Colorado. The strategy: Create medical homes for enrollees, emphasize preventive care, and focus on overall care coordination starting with a primary care provider. The overarching goals: Reduce costs, improve health outcomes and provide a better care experience for patients and providers. Using the initial data from the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) on the program, we take a look at how the program has fared so far in reducing health care spending and unncecessary services.
