The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) used three questions on the CHAS to measure loneliness:

  • How often do you feel you lack companionship? (relational connectedness)
  • How often do you feel left out? (social connectedness)
  • How often do you feel isolated from others? (self-perceived isolation)

These questions were sponsored by the Broomfield and Denver departments of Public Health and Environment. Responses to these questions were combined to create a composite loneliness score, helping us understand how Coloradans experienced loneliness in their daily lives.
